Bird Conservation Organizations

The NBFS is proud to promote the conservation organizations below.

National Wildlife Refuge System

The National Wildlife Refuge System, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is the world’s premiere system of public lands and waters set aside to conserve America’s fish, wildlife and plants. Since 1903, the System has grown to 97 million acres, 548 refuges and 37 wetland management districts. The mission of the Refuge System is to manage a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management and restoration of fish, wildlife and plant resources and their habitat.

International Migratory Bird Day

International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) is observed by hundreds of thousands of people. They will gather in town squares, community centers, schools, parks, and refuges across the Western Hemisphere to learn more about wild birds, take action to conserve birds and their habitats, and simply have fun. IMBD was created specifically to highlight the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between nesting habitats in North America and non-breeding grounds in South and Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The day serves as an opportunity to celebrate all the species of birds whose annual movements enliven our lands, waters and skies.
