Other bird feeders include those that hold fruit, insects, and Nyjer®. Fruit feeders typically contain a perch for the bird, and fruit is impaled on a spike. Insects, such as mealworms, can be offered in an open dish. The dish is often enclosed within a container that shelters the insects. Nyjer® feeders are typically tube feeders, however, the seed port is smaller than in traditional tube feeders. Nyjer® is also dispensed through a seed sock, a narrow mesh cloth approximately one foot in length.
