The ruby-throated hummingbird is one of the smallest of North American hummingbirds. It is the most widely distributed and the only one in eastern North America. If you live in the west, you have 17 possible species, although 10 are restricted to areas near the Mexican border. The range of the ruby-throated hummingbird matches the eastern deciduous forest -- from the east coast inland to Texas and North Dakota, including southern Canada.
