460 Catch a Rising Bluebird While many species are considered to be harbingers of spring, few are anticipated more than bluebirds. Not only do they bring happiness, as folklore has it, but they're beautiful. When you catch a bluebird in the right light, you understand Thoreau's claim that they carry the sky on their backs. This marvelous blue forms the backdrop for the rusty chest and white belly of the male eastern bluebird, making it one of the most handsome of birds. The equally attractive western bluebird is similar, but with dark blue on the throat and rust on the shoulders and back. And the dapper mountain bluebird is decked out in cool cobalt... |
