Privacy Policy - Our Commitment to Your Privacy |
This site is owned and operated by the National Bird-Feeding Society (NBFS). Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. At NBFS, we want to make your online experience satisfying and safe. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand our policies and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what kinds of information we gather and how we use it. ![]() © Roger Mayhorn Information NBFS Gathers and TracksNBFS gathers two types of information about users:
Use of InformationNBFS uses any information voluntarily given by users to enhance their experience on our network of sites, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare future content based on the expressed interests of users. As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out electronic newsletters and notices and to supply users with requested information. NBFS may send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule (depending on the newsletter or bulletin type) and occasionally will send out special editions. NBFS will share information about viewers and members with its exclusive sponsor, Wild Bird Centers of America, Inc., and its network of retail and electronic (e-store) outlets. NBFS uses tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and do not like, based on traffic to those areas. NBFS does not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us provide better services for our viewers. We may track search terms entered in the search function as typical measures of what interests our users, but we do not track which terms a particular user enters. NBFS may create aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for our use, but NBFS does not track or target individual users. We will not disclose any tracking information about any individual user except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public. Sharing of the InformationNBFS uses the above-described information to better understand our audience’s demographics and tailor our content to suit its needs. This is essential to keeping our service interesting. NBFS will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to the Wild Bird Centers of America, Inc., and will comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users. ChildrenProtecting the privacy of young viewers is especially important. Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), NBFS will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting written parental consent. Usage TrackingNBFS tracks general user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. NBFS does break down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user’s browser). NBFS may track and catalog search terms that users enter in our search function, but this tracking is never associated with individual users. NBFS uses tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and do not like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps NBFS provide better service for you. Links to Other SitesNBFS’ websites have links to the sites of our sponsor, partners and other websites. When NBFS users visit other sites through these links, they are no longer considered to be on a NBFS site and are subject to the privacy policy of the new site. How You Can Access or Correct Your InformationYou can access all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain it by contacting the NBFS staff. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections. Your ConsentBy using this site, you consent to the collection and use of information described in this document by NBFS. If NBFS decides to change its privacy policy, NBFS will post those changes on this page so that you are always informed about information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances NBFS may disclose it.
